Originally from Detroit, MI, Kayla Battle moved to Brooklyn, NY, after earning her BFA in Graphic Design from Western Michigan University. She currently works as an in-house graphic designer who occasionally takes on inspiring freelance projects and spends a lot of time drawing.
Design Practice
As a designer, Kayla employs expressive typography and illustration to create dynamic and narrative visual systems. She takes pleasure in realizing other creatives' visions and uplifting the missions of community-supporting organizations.  See work>
Artistic Practice
As an artist, her soft graphite drawings serve as a respite from the often harsh realities of the world. Her work features whimsical, surreal, and allegorical themes, drawing inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki's films. Reminiscent of the distinctive style of Fernando Botero, her exaggerated figures are endearing, buoyant, and curious. Her work is a warm invitation to indulge in our daydreams.  See work>
